In this class, I hope to learn how to effectively use technology in a classroom and educational setting. I want to figure out the best ways to display information to students and their families. I also want to learn strategies for teaching through technology and for my own learning as an elementary school teacher. Learning is never done, so I want to know how to find the information that I need to constantly become a better teacher.

I have used technology a lot in my own learning environments. We have consistently used PowerPoints, Word documents, and other online platforms as a means of learning. I have also taught in a daycare for the past two years. While we obviously try to minimize the technology use in kids that young, it does come in handy sometimes. We use movement videos on YouTube when the kids need to be physically engaged, but it is too hot or rainy to go outside. Tools like this have made my classroom experiences much better, both as a student and as a teacher.

My current personal learning network is largely focused on running and nutrition for running. I watch a lot of running-related content on Instagram and YouTube. This helps me to get motivated and discover ways to make my running healthier and more beneficial for me. I also have many friends who run, so we can talk about recovery, training plans, and a lot of other running-related topics together.

  1. Hey Emma!
It was nice to read about your goals for this class and about your PLN. I am excited for you to be pursuing a degree in Elementary Education, as I believe you will do well if you continue to foster your love of learning and constant desire to improve. I have had a similar experience as you in the classroom: we used tools like PowerPoint and Word. They definitely became essential for learning. Also, I really think that your passion for running and eating well will be a positive addition to your career. Students should have healthy role models to look up to, and you will be one of them. If I were you I would try and do things like mini-lessons on eating well and exercise for your future students.

  2. Hi Emma! I enjoyed reading your blog post. I have a similar experience to you-- I used to work at a child care and we were usually not allowed to use technology, but on certain occasions we would need to put on videos for the kids. Social media is a great way to learn about running and gain motivation!
